On the heels of Superbowl 50 and as we head out for Jubilee Conference 40 this weekend, I’m thinking about these words from Broncos wide receiver, Jordan Norwood:
“When people ask me how my faith fits into my life I have to tell them that it doesn’t. Faith has never fit into my life, it is my life. It’s not just a piece of the puzzle; it’s the whole puzzle.”
Jordan — who worshiped with us at Calvary Midtown while he was a student and PSU football player — captures the Jubilee Conference vision perfectly. Instead of seeing faith as a compartment reserved for Sunday morning or a “piece of the puzzle” we have to fit into “spiritual places,” Jubilee inspires college students to serve Jesus with their entire lives.
Whether you’re headed to Jubilee or participating in THON this weekend, this is great reminder to live out our faith in every area of our lives: in our classes, workplaces, relationships, dorms, or while dancing/serving for THON. When we catch a vision for bringing the truth of the gospel into every square inch of this world, it has the potential to transform everything.
Let’s say “no” to a compartmentalized faith, and “YES” to living our whole lives for Jesus. Be encouraged today by this charge from the apostle Paul to the Romans:
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. (Romans 12:1-2, MSG)
